| It took me a long time to learn where he came from. | Не скоро я понял, откуда он явился. |

| "That is not an object. It flies. | — Это не штука. Он летает. |
| It is an airplane. | Это самолет. |

| And I was proud to have him learn that I could fly. | Он летает. И я с гордостью объяснил, что умею летать. |

| You dropped down from the sky?" | Ты упал с неба? |

| And the little prince broke into a lovely peal of laughter, which irritated me very much. I like my misfortunes to be taken seriously. | И Маленький принц звонко засмеялся, так что меня взяла досада: я люблю, чтобы к моим злоключениям относились серьезно. |

| "So you, too, come from the sky! | — Значит, ты тоже явился с неба. |
| Which is your planet?" | А с какой планеты? |
| At that moment I caught a gleam of light in the impenetrable mystery of his presence; and I demanded, abruptly: | «Так вот разгадка его таинственного появления здесь, в пустыне!» — подумал я и спросил напрямик: |
| "Do you come from another planet?" | — Стало быть, ты попал сюда с другой планеты? |
| But he did not reply. | Но он не ответил. |
| He tossed his head gently, without taking his eyes from my plane: | Он тихо покачал головой, разглядывая самолет: |
| "It is true that on that you can't have come from very far away..." | — Ну, на этом ты не мог прилететь издалека... |
| And he sank into a reverie, which lasted a long time. | И надолго задумался о чем-то. |
| Then, taking my sheep out of his pocket, he buried himself in the contemplation of his treasure. | Потом вынул из кармана барашка и погрузился в созерцание этого сокровища. |
